It’s that time of the year again: Christmas parties and year-end functions. While this is a time to let loose and have fun, you also need to be warned that you are partying with work colleagues and need to show restraint.

You need to maintain your professionalism and avoid embarrassing yourself. It is important to behave appropriately so that you don’t damage your reputation. Misbehaving at a party can destroy your future at the company. Here’s how you can still have a good time without ruining your career.

Put in an appearance
It’s tempting not to attend an office party because you may feel that it’s a waste of your time. Also, you feel restricted because you can’t party like you normally do. But no matter how much you dislike socializing with your colleagues, you need to go to your office party because it shows that you are interested in the company. Choose your partner

If you are allowed to take a partner along, choose someone who is not going to misbehave. Your friend may be a livewire in your private life, but they may be unsuitable for an office event. There’s nothing as embarrassing as going with someone who drinks too much and mumbles and falls everywhere. Invite someone who mixes with other people easily and won’t disrupt the party.

Drinking makes people behave in strange ways, so have a few glasses of your favorite alcoholic beverage, but don’t overdo it. It is tempting to drink as many glasses as possible — after all, the company is paying, but don’t do it. This is a company event, so you will be judged in your professional environment.
When you are drunk, it is hard to control your actions as you are in a different state of mind. You may tell your boss or colleague what you really think of them, or start dancing on the tables. Drink water to Stay hydrated and avoid being sick. You don’t want to be sick and vomit in front of your boss. Don’t drink on an empty stomach and drink slowly.
